...And it's the costume
I can see myself that it uses the basic overall design from the original films, but the color scheme is slightly darker. Also, the spider emblem appears to have changed. They also mention in the very brief article that the old costume used to have a silver mixed into the color scheme, which is all but gone here.

Well, Tobey only got his ass kicked during the last fight, so he wasn't hurt much. It looks like this film will be more hero-in-training than the original film- where Tobey's film seemed he by the time we saw him in the actual costume, he was already completely ready for his role has a crime-fighter. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. i probably prefer that to what they did in the originals. sure, its fun when he's learning his powers, asking himself "how do i shot web" (couldnt resist).
but yeah he seems to get the hang of it and being a hero too fast. want some mistakes and him getting the crap kicked out of him _________________

Well they moved from him graduating high school, right after Uncle Ben's death, to him already in college, and skipped that formative time... especially how he got a costume that cool from that piece of crap sweater/sweatpants/ski mask combo he had in his fight against Bonesaw McGraw. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. i liked maguire as spiderman. he was cute and absolutely NOT bad-ass - just as the "real" spider man used to be. peter parker used to be a super-nerd. then he got his powers and badabam: super cool.
lets just hope they can also make that gap with the new guy. im skeptic. _________________

they're sticking closer the comics, apparently- no Mary Jane Watson just yet. Instead, Gwen Stacy will be his love interest in the film.
I heard they, much like Spiderman 3, are using the Ultimate Spiderman as the inspiration for the new story.
I just hope when they do the sequels, they get Venom RIGHT this time, and not an actor thats SMALLER than the hero! _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. Not to sound like an internet hater, but stick with what works. Ultimate Spiderman (US) works for comics, I guess, and a video game or two- but come up with some original material! What works in comics doesn't necessarily work with film.
Spiderman 1 was great, it was its own story. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight- new take, brilliant films. That said, as long as they don't try to service one niche of the fanbase (Like those US fans) and try to do their own thing. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. I still remember the moment during spiderman 3 when I suddenly thought "how could I oversee the overflowing gayness of tobey maguire?!" seriously, who is this guy? why was he made a superhero in the first place? my lord, imagine how spiderman could have been without him... _________________

I'm not a die-hard comic fan or even a Spiderman fan. All I have to say is this. The Dark Knight worked because Batman (as the comic was originally intended) was a dark character. Dark Knight gave Batman's character justice (even though it apparently took the Joker's original character and changed it entirely).
That being said, Spiderman was a lighthearted anti-hero, so I'm not sure making it a darker film will work, Carnage/Venom notwithstanding. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

i can sense this guy's personality already. dark/cool american guy that the ladies are supposed to love and boys idolize. no, tired of seeing those.
maguire at least didnt TRY to look cool (not that he is). i actually thought a nerdy super hero was a nice change from the usual studs at the time.
i might be too biased since i havnt even seen him act yet, but for now, ill hold low expectations till proven otherwise. |

Agreed with sora... Peter Parker was never supposed to be a teen heartthrob. And Tobey captured that geekiness perfectly.
I heard the rumor is Sony (or whoever has the rights to Spiderman currently) had to either pump out another spiderman movie or they would relinquish the rights to the franchise. That's not a good inception for a quality movie. Then I heard early in production the budget was majorly slashed, which makes my worries even greater.
Just sad to see the Tobey Spiderman era end the way it did. Oh well, it was an amazing experience. As a big Spiderman fan I was on the edge of my seat at the 2002 premiere. One of the defining moments in my career as a movie nut, also.
Here's to hoping this new movie will at least be digestible. |
