man, i wish i knew more about the Himalayas and all the hidden temples it has. eklemata must be inspired by one of them. Also, the name is a mystery to me. _________________ // APodEIctIc TIMe visoR |

Hey Huball, nice findings! The one with Himalaya is impressive albeit coincidental (i think).
It gave me an idea. I'll try to break the name in 2 and search for hindi/sanskrit. Maybe later i'll search for Tibetan (if there is such a language). But Buddhism, reincarnation-theory etc has it origin in India so that's why i start here.
So, in japanese is "Ekurumaata". Japanese 101:
1. "u" is mostly silenced (as in Eklemata and not Ekulumata)
2. in this case the second letter is probably "L" but if we find something useful with "R" there's not a huge problem with that (especially considering indian languages and how the japanese acquired the terms in it)
3. a long vowel could hide another softer consonant. Maata could be read as Martha. As I doubt Martha Stewart had anything to do with Himalaya I'll pass on.
4. if the Japanese creators have the word (or words pieces) from a book that was translated from Egnlish, the first "E" may be "A"
I'll try to break in Ekuru+Maata
Second part is easier:
mata = mother
http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/philologic/getobject.pl?c.7:1:3959.platts
other meanings:
- thought, idea, belief, religion
- founder, ancestor
The irst one, that is tricky. I don't know any indian language so here is what i found:
Ekram = accomplish (http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Ekram.html)
Ekra = one (1)
(http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/philologic/getobject.pl?c.0:1:5741.platts)
I didn't found anything useful with "ekL-", just those 2 with ekR.
Akra = precious, dear
Akla = alone, only, single
I am really opened to suggestions and I'll search more too.
More interesting stuff:
mārtā = strike, attack, also a person who strikes, who overcomes, who teaches a lesson. ALSO a suppressor (the boss from the end of the lvl?)
martha = a mortal (a possible description of humans)
mardhā = stout and strong (a possible description of humans)
akrama(n)a = step on, approach, ascend, venture, dare _________________ // APodEIctIc TIMe visoR

In Nepalese language the Mount Everest is called Sagarmatha
(सगरमाथा, „Forehead Of The Heavens").
In Sanskrit language, Sagarmatha stands for “Forehead of Universe” (Matha: Forehead and Sagar: Heavens or Sky). It is also the contemporary name for Mount Everest in Nepali dialect. |

Guys, Huball found Sylvain Castle in real world
Many of the games locations make a LOT of sense.
Want to know what is it? And how it's called?
Then head to the interactive map.
Both me and Huball worked on this interactive map and there's too much copy/paste to repost all of it here. Plus it's interactive @_@ Use 'Terrain' view for a closer-to-Terranigma-feeling.
Wish i could embed it here but i can't. It's Flash.

Hello! I am new here. I find this topic very interesting and I would like to contribute to it a little.
rayim wrote: | About Astarica (アスタリカ): I do think it is inspired by Machu Pichu, but the position is different from the real world one. The connection to it is more imaginative than other places, say Ayers Rock.
Here is the location of Astarica and Machu Pichu:
Machu Pichu is a lot souther. Quito is the best match – the most northern part of the Inca Empire. Astarica is where the letter "c" is. |
I do not think it is inspired in Machu Pichu like the Inca Ruins in Illusion of Gaia are, because Machu Pichu is a huge complex very high in the mountains, and Astarica is just one temple. It may be a coincidence, but the location matches up with the Sun Temple in Ingapirca, in Ecuador. Its purpose is very similar to Astarica according to the Wikipedia page: "the people had numerous ritual celebrations. Gallons of a local fermented drink were used in these festivals. As sun and moon worshipers, they tried to be as close to their gods as possible..."
Additionally, in the overworld Evergreen seems to be close to lake Titicaca, although its actual appearance seems related to the Amazon, so I am not too sure.
Finally, I just realized my name looks very much like rayim's. I didn't mean for that to happen and apologize if it is confusing! |

It really is. I am so glad me and Huball managed to make that map and collect all those nifty bits of info.
Raymi, very nice info! Also, our names being so similar makes me wonder if it isn't something in Terranigma that made us chose this _________________ // APodEIctIc TIMe visoR |

Necro'd threads are all right, we don't really have a policy against them. Good find though! _________________
