Hit Lunar 2 for streamin', not quite completed before it comes out at the end of the week but that's okay (going to the Red Dragon storywise, if you know you know). For myself I started again on Star Rail, but I start and go on that one often, and for my birthday, hubs got me Atelier Yumia because I love me some Atelier games. Yumia seems to be one of the darker entries in the series (most are pretty cute and "cute girls doing cute things") along with the Dusk trilogy so I'm excited to see how it shakes out otherwise.

We got Atelier Ryza for study material a while back. We really should get back to it.

Lately we've been spending a LOT of time on Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition on Switch. Really loving the lore and world building on that one!

I picked up Clair Obscur 33, and a couple of hours in it's pretty good! reminds me a lot of chrono cross. the overworld map and some of the music, the battle system with the AP stacking all are kinda familiar.

It has a bit of a Majora's Mask vibe, doesnt it? ^^

Yea, it's a darker game. MM was creepier though.

It's one of the Zelda games I never finished. I liked the grander, more epic scale. We often said it was "Ocarina of Time but more dark fantasy", but I only ever got as far as the Water Temple.

Majora's Mask I finished like... once? It has a hold on me, and every horror-loving millenial, but it's far from my favorite Zelda title. Think that honor still goes to my OG beloved Link to the Past just for nostalgia sake.

= = =

Oh, uh, finished Syberia 3. It was actually really good. Gonna buy World Before next paycheck. I just got back from Glasgow so I've been chilling with light games but looking to pick up FFX again here in a bit and honestly... Kingdom Hearts has been calling out to me, particularly the first one.

A Link to the Past is still my favorite Zelda game to this day.

Finally finished Lunar 2; I'd played it before but got stuck because my younger self was actually stupid lol. But I got through the epilogue and everything, it was really cute. Starting up Vanguard Bandits tomorrow on stream, I'm completely blind to that one.

Non-streaming is still Atelier Yumia, slowly plugging away at that one. Open world unfortunately for me means "I need to see everything on the map asap" lol.

@MPB: Impeccable taste as always! It's such a classic. It's the most aggressively super nintendo game of its day. The bright colors and pleasant (usually... sans that heart beepy nonsense) are just evergreen. It's also by far the most satisfying rupee collecting has ever been. That little "chink chink" cash register sound.

Interesting symmetry to those two. iirc, Vanguard Bandits actually had a Lunar 2 demo disc with it and when you got the Complete collector's edition there was a spot in the soundtrack CD for you to place it.

Also I think I mentioned this before but I got up the final boss on two separate runs but he kept stomping my ass lol.

Man I completely missed this, but yeah, the L2 demo disc is in the sleeve with the soundtrack now Smile VB is actually pretty fun, though I'm actual trash at tactical rpgs like that. I'm about halfway through the first route; waiting to see how chat says I should proceed after as there's 2 other routes I can go, and one of those is only accessible after I beat it the first time. If they all say "nah move on" well... I have 3 other WD games to go through (Alundra, Arc the Lad, and Growlanser). We'll see if I get through them all before I hit October since October's designated Spoopy Game™ is going to be Bloodborne.

A while back I restarted playing the Dragon Age games so I can properly play Veilguard, but, well... I'm playing them slowly lol. I'm at the very end of Awakening finally, so I'll be starting 2 soon. I also got back on Honkai Star Rail (I'm f2p and that's fine, I don't need to spend) and enjoying the story again after the Xianzhou Luofu stuff. Penacony went from "what a fun land of dreams and cool dreamstuff!" to horror real quick, I like it.

I finished Claire Obscure 33. yes, it was good, a little too soap opera for me, but you can tell the developers really gave their all. it reminded me A LOT of chrono cross. the coral/aquatic themes, the music and the battle system, I can't believe nobody else seems to see the resemblance.

started Cyberpunk 2077 Liberty City, and it really is a great story. in a fantastic setting. wrapped in a bad game engine.

Started a replay of FFX because... well, why not? It's one of my faves, and it's been a while. This time I've decided to do EVERYTHING though, so that means suffering through Blitzball, finally, to get Wakka's weapon, and then to go and beat up the hidden bosses. I did beat up Dark Valefor though, that was satisfying... though I cheesed it by using Yojimbo to Zanmato them. Laughing Ah well. One down, many to go.

@psychokind Congrats on finishing Claire Obscur – I've heard comparisons to Chrono Cross before and your description of the aquatic themes and AP stacking has me tempted to give it a go. Chrono Cross's soundtrack alone is enough to get me to try anything in the same vein, so if this scratches that itch then I'm in! Cyberpunk's Phantom Liberty (er, Liberty City?) has been sitting in my backlog too; love the characters and story but Night City still feels like it's held together with duct tape in places. At least the bugs are more amusing than game‑breaking now.

@inferiare I'm right there with you on the FFX love. I did a remaster run a few years back but chickened out on Blitzball after a couple of tournaments – those mini‑games are still the stuff of nightmares. Kudos for going for all the Celestial Weapons and Dark Aeons! Yojimbo is 100% a legitimate strategy if you ask me; if the developers put Zanmato in the game, who are we to resist using it?

My own gaming rotation lately has been a mish‑mash of old and new. I recently wrapped up Tears of the Kingdom (a.k.a. "collect every korok, question my life choices"), and in the spirit of JRPG nostalgia I fired up Chrono Trigger on the Miyao Mini. Still hits just as hard as it did in the '90s. I'm also dabbling in Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC – it’s wild to see a CRPG go mainstream – and I've been noodling with the PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (can't resist a good Square Enix fix). Next on the docket might be revisiting Spira myself… or maybe I'll finally get around to finishing my Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC playthrough like Jason was talking about earlier in the thread. So many games, so little time!

finished cyperpunk 2077, and it was pretty good. but I didn't like my ending, then watched the other endings on youtube, and didn't like those either Very Happy

I started Sea of Stars, which was on my radar for a time and then I completely forgot about it. the key is down to 10 €, so not much to think about. and it's really good! the influences from old SNES classics is quite on the nose, but they presented it in such a beautiful and well animated way, I have to give them credit for that.

have I mentioned me and my buddy started Stardew Valley couch coop split screen on our gaming thursdays. and jesus christ, this gives this already incredible game even more flavor. It's so addicting, we even declined an evening of getting wasted at a local octoberfest just to play Very Happy

Finished Silksong last week. 10/10 game. Made in my city of Adelaide Australia, less than 1km from where I work. One of the best game experiences I have had in years, sad that is over, unless I want to try and do it deathless, but I don't think I am that good.

When I got the 100% completion ending decided to read the credits, one of the artists went to primary school with me in my tiny little rural town with year levels of under 20 kids. So cool seeing someone you know pop up in such a huge piece of media.

Man, I gotta get Hollow Knight and Silksong, but there are so many games on my "jesus fuck Jason play this game already" list. Still not touched BG3 yet and in 50% of the friendly chats I have with my ex-wife they are about that. Eek!

Also that's super cool, man! It's always surreal when you have a person you know involved in like a Big Project. that's me seeing my writing mentor show up in fuckin' anything. Laughing

= = =

On Topic Update: Crushed Metal Gear Solid Delta. Just working on a Foxhound Run before I retire it but fuck my running the bosses are tough on Extreme (as you would expect). Currently trying to navigate The Pain, a boss who gave me only mild trouble on Hard but is thoroughly handing me my ass on Extreme.

Also been playing through FFXII: Zodiac Age after buying it on sale back in 2021. Been enjoying it and the Zodiac System, I must admit, is helping me keep my team balanced and focused. And the speed-up option is saving my sanity. Maybe this time I'll actually beat this game.

I've been bouncing between the old and the new lately. After seeing all the chatter about Chrono Cross and Lunar in this thread I dusted off my SNES and started another playthrough of Terranigma (that ending still gives me goosebumps). I'm also running Secret of Mana co‑op over netplay with a buddy – turns out spamming Sylphid is still the easiest way to break the game.

On the more recent front I've been slowly crawling through Baldur's Gate 3 when time permits. I'm still in Act I because I keep getting distracted by every barrel and side quest, but it's a blast so far. I also picked up a copy of FFXII Zodiac Age on sale and appreciate being able to speed things up; Gambits make my inner programmer very happy.

Anyone else revisiting the Quintet classics or playing something that scratches that retro itch? Always looking for more suggestions to add to my already ridiculous backlog.
