I'm an American. Free time is the enemy of capitalism.

But also, my store is a demanding mistress, I'm planning a wedding, raising a child and doing freelance writing which involves multiple deadlines. Cracking out a 400 page book once a year is no easy feat (and that's only possible because I work with a team of editors!)

I was just at a 40th birthday party last weekend and another one in 2 weeks since my school friends are reaching their 40s before I myself will next year

I just turned 38 back in April. But my knees have been out of warranty since I hit 30 .

Yeah, we're not even like "adults" anymore. We're whole-ass grown ups. Men and women. Approaching middle-aged. Many of us are married and/or have kids.

We've come along way from high schoolers / college-aged nerds talking about vidya on the internet and writing fanfiction about each other.

I turn 37 in ~a week, I'm practically still a baby. Totally feel you on the knees too - I've already had one surgery and the issues never fully went away.

That may be in my future. My brother Tyler had four concurrent surgeries on his knees - something to do with the cartilage? Anyway, first off, if I don't see you here on the day of - Happy Birthday - and secondly, I hope things get better for you... or at least don't get worse.

any plans for a big birthday party? me and my wife want to make a classical summer outdoor party, just a bit more investment that 20 years ago. I want to have someone prepare a pigling over open fire instead of hot sausages, a refrigerator truck and maybe a live band playing 2000-2010 hits for a few hours. propably around 80 people or so.
the birthdays right now did about the same, just that my friends had food trucks come over which I am definetely not a big fan of. and they're very expensive in my opinion.

Thanks! Honestly though it isn’t that bad. I’m still pretty active, just sometimes my knee tells me to chill.

FWIW I had a torn meniscus which is apparently not uncommon.
