          | Someone tell me, is there a known text dump of this? I've found myself debating this game's (confounding) plot and it would be nice if I had a text dump to refer to on the finer points.
Tangentially, I really have to say I'd love it if there came a day when we could all cite video game text as efficiently as we do that of books. Maybe it's just that I'd written too many papers at university, but something about being able to stick a video game assembly address in a footnote really makes me kind of giddy.

          | I'm pretty sure you could download the script for the whole game from somewhere on the site at some point. Maybe somebody has it. _________________

          | Ya, videogame scripts are good sometimes, so I understand your giddyness.
So, Text dumps are the actual script for games?

          | If I understand the term correctly, text dump is that actual file that contains all text for the game, dialogue or otherwise. But I would assume that Limne is looking for a Game Script. I'm sure one exists. Somebody has that much time on their hands. _________________

          | Limne, I sure someone who have experince with game translating may help you obtain text dump. Search the internet for the websites that hosting the ROM translations or ROM-hacking community.

          | A text dump isn't exactly a script per say...
What happens is that you get the game's font and record the hex values used for each character and use those to interpret all of the ROMs memory. Thus, all the text programmed into the game should appear amongst a whole bunch of random gibberish (other kinds of programming being interpreted as font characters.) In this way you might even find dialogue that was programmed into the game but never used. On the other hand, some games use compressed data so it can be a bit trickier than that but this is the basic idea. This method also generally results in the text being completely out of order because you're dealing with it's appearance in the game's memory rather than it's appearance in the stories progression; people often rearrange text dumps so that they appear in something like the order of actual delivery in game, but that's not essential, and for some purposes, even unwanted.

I haven't found a text dump of this game anywhere so far... There's a script for Illusion of Gaia on game FAQs but the typos lead me to believe that someone just wrote the whole thing out by hand.

I could probably produce a text dump myself, but... You know... Hexing isn't very fun. Nor do I have a hex editor at the moment... Bah.

          | Ah sheesh. The site does have a text dump, you should know.
Look on the fanfiction section and choose the "Game Dialogue" file.

However, the table used didn't align the later "PERSON:" parts used to indicate the speaker correctly, so many named people have incorrect labels at the beginning of their dialog.

          | I believe I have a script of it somewhere. It's not exactly a dump, but if anyone wants it, I'll see if I can find it. _________________

I've been there before, and I don't recall ever seeing a text dump on the RPG Shrine. *Le shrug*
