Crocoduck : Found!
In a hilariously ironic twist of fate, scientists actually ended up finding a crocoduck fossil.
I wonder what Kirk and Ray has to say to this.

Kirk Cameron (a diehard religious fellow), in a nutshell, basically argued that since there has never been evidence of a cross between a crocodile and a duck (the "crocoduck", as it came to be called), then evolution is bullshit, and that's proof of God's existence.psychokind wrote:didn't understand that quite right...
But recently, fossil evidence has appeared of a creature that did have characteristics of a crocodile and a duck. It's not the incredibly stupid 'croc-head-on-a-duck-body' picture he shows; it's more croc-like than duck-like. But it is evidence of a transitional species, which he claimed didn't exist.

As I've said. Evolution is the HOW, not the WHY, but I only have found compelling evidence of micro-evolution (which I believe to be absolute fact). Crocoduck doesn't mean we evolved from lizards.

I understood that much, but why is this guy on television talking about something like this?!Freedan, the Dark Knight wrote:Kirk Cameron (a diehard religious fellow), in a nutshell, basically argued that since there has never been evidence of a cross between a crocodile and a duck (the "crocoduck", as it came to be called), then evolution is bullshit, and that's proof of God's existence.psychokind wrote:didn't understand that quite right...

this is incredibly silly, if I wanted to disprove evolution that way, I would never use something simple like a crokoduck as an example

Because he's a zealot. He comes up with the most ridiculous examples (I've also seen pictures for things like a dog/parrot cross, a tiger/caterpillar cross, and a cat/whale cross - among many others - the crocoduck just got the most attention), and says that if those things can't be proven, then God created the universe.psychokind wrote: I understood that much, but why is this guy on television talking about something like this?!
He was on Bill O'Reilly's show, by the way. A very right-wing individual. No one other than far-right media outlets would have actually let him talk without laughing him out of the building.
He uses a very standard fallacy of arguments. If A can't be proven, then B must be true. Even those who have never taken a first-year philosophy class should recognize that's bull.
What he failed to realize, however (and the crocoduck should teach him this), is that however ridiculous those crosses may seem, each one is more likely to be discovered than God, what with God being inherently unknowable and all.

I've never heard of this Kirk Cameron thing, or the Crocoduck. Must be the Growing Pains of Evolution. (Really bad pun, but someone had to do it)
I don't really want to get into another Evolution debate, my peace was stated there. Just the idea someone came up with the idea of the Crocoduck, and then they found one, is funny and ironic to me.

Well it doesn't, but it reinforces the already well-buttressed scientific theory that birds have reptilian ancestry.Jason Tandro wrote:As I've said. Also, the distinction between micro and macro evolution is actually an illusion, separated only by time scale. The study of evolution is also a study of why, as it also deals with the fossils for evidence of their way of life, and what natural forces have conspired to make animals adapt, evolve or die out.
