| Ive noticed quite a few people have 1000 gems but have only made a few posts, as little as one. how does that work? and how did one person get 65k gems lol. thats cool! fill me in please im a little confused =s |

A thousand gems, off one post? Whoa, that must be a helluva post....
(Maybe a text dump of Terranigma? Or an e-novel; that's about the only thing I can think of that would be so big)
I only currently has 2,005 gems myself. (Is not poor, but not rich either) |

| I believe it has to do with join date. When this place first started up (again) everyone got 1,000 gems, but you didn't recieve any from posting. I think. Most of the people with 1,000 gems all joined in 04-05. |

| ah that makes sense. hm wat do ppl use gems for mostly anyway? i gave raini some gems to make me a sig but that was only like 40, n shes 2 busy to make it atm anyways lol. anyone done anything cool with there gems? |

its no bug. zuruh just made some VERY big posts in spam central. and they add to gem count, but not to post count.
so, if you're desperate for gems, paste an essay or 2 in spam central.

Hmm, that sounds a bit unbalanced. If those posts don't count towards post-counts, why should they count towards total gems?
Maybe I'll just copy-paste the Wikipedia article for the TARDIS into spam central then.... :p |

Gems were created to provide an economic element to TerraEarth. Basically the only people who use them are people like me who make games and give them out as prizes. It's sort of acknowledged that these gems have little more than sentimental value, and are seen as a tangible way of signifying an exchange of services on the boards.
... Wow. I should narrate for the Discovery Channel.
