I remember hearing about that. I don't remember what happened to the parents of the other kid though. Sad

thats some fucked up shit. although, i dont think they had a way to know the girl was that unstable. most people talk to their parents about that kind of thing before doing anything rash.

Regardless whether or not the girl's instability is even a factor, the people who perpetrated this hoax were ADULTS. They need to act like adults instead of children. WHO CARES IF SOMEBODY IS SAYING SOMETHING BEHIND YOUR BACK? LET IT GO!!!

i suppose that is true. but those parents were concerned for what might well have been their own daughter's emotional stability. the way they went about it, though, was just stupid and considering the repercussions, would deserve some form of punishment. and im not talking a slap on the wrist, either.

normally, you're lucky when adults are doing something like that, cause teens are way more reckless, brutal and creative.

also, how can somebody be so unstable to kill himself because of the internet and not be in a mental hospital? the parents should have stopped watching her internet activities and instead take her out to do some sports, she was way overweight for a 13 year old kid. it's like they were feeding her a depression...

Her parents might not have realised she was depressed at all - it can be hard to spot sometimes.

The fuckers who caused her to commit suicide through their sick Myspace prank, however, should be done for manslaughter/murder, I think.

agreed. murder is probably a bit extreme, but manslaughter and whatever they can do for online harassment and pedophelia (arguable, even if weakly and without the traditional intent) would serve as nice icing.

I remember hearing similiar stories like this. It's the society we live in- the iGeneration- the issue here is not only these sick people, but parents not making their children understand that you can't have a relationship with a computer screen. It just doesn't work that way.

No one is worth taking your life over.

it is nowhere extreme. convincing somebody to commit suicide is the same as pointing a gun on him and pulling the trigger yourself. at least according to german law (and I bet american too).

I have little sympathy for adults that commit suicide. I realize that might seem heartless, but I grew up surrounded by people with no real problems who kept threatening to kill themselves.

But this girl was a child, and the little stuff is all the more important when you're a kid.

As for internet dating I'm firmly against it. I have good friendships online, of course, but dating I think is unrealistic. Knowing the person, spending time with the person and being able to fully trust the person are key in a relationship and the anonymity of the internet prevents this.

I think the internet is a great but dangerous place to meet people. Sure, if you find someone interesting, take the time to meet that person, but within the safest possible way. But don't build a relationship around a person whom you've never even met. It's ridiculous, insane, and potentially, deadly.

Lol. I actually wrote a story about this, based kinda on this story but mostly about recstudios (the kid I've made mention to previously in the Private Boards) signing back up with a new account yesterday.
