given the end of Flamez experiment I wanted to open a discussion what real usecases there are for AI that you can think of or already use. I know the term is incorrect and these are just clever toasters, but you know what I mean with AI (chatgpt, perplexity and so on).
I tried several different use cases, with mixed results:
- in the early stages I tried using it for work to change texts from third person to first person and it was so bad that I had to manually check the text again so that it didn't reduce workload.
- I used it to monitor the data of my pool water and it was very good. it can read the description of the chemicals and then calculate given the amount of water my pool has etc. I completely changed my pool routine which saved a lot of work and a little bit of money.
- I used it for a legal dispute I have with the return of my leased car to check the car assessement. it was ok, it gave me some info I didn't see myself but I had to correct it quite a bit. I'd say it was a low improvement
- I used it to read the instruction of my thermal heat pump when I had problems last week. although I couldn't find the problem, it's a great time saver
- I tried to find the correct size for my tire nuts on my new car, because I want them black for the black rims. it couldn't help me and I had to ask my car-expert-friend
- I used it to find a cheap solution to make my new dryer smart with a tuya bridge and a energy monitoring socket
- I tried finding cheap insurance for my wifes coming company car, and it gave me false information
so quite a bit! I find it helpful in reading descriptions for things. sometimes problems are too specific and the language part of the large language models is the one I find the least useful. how are your experiences?[/list] _________________

Just the other day I took a photo of my automatic garage door opener which had no identifying information on it. AI was able to determine what company and model it was enabling me to find the correct replacement remote for it.
I find AI is a better google than google these days "search for X, provide links" usually yields far more useful results.
As a teacher, it is really good at writing formal emails. "Write a email to X about the following <insert dot points>" big time saver.
There was a fast food steak house that used to do the beeeeest slow cooked steak when I was younger, sadly in the era of uber eats it had died off. AI was able to give me a recipe for how they did the steaks including the rub. 10/10 result, best steak I have ever cooked.
I find AI is as good as your prompt is. The more detailed your prompt, and the defined you want the answer to be the more likely you are to get useful stuff out of it. _________________

I don't. I've trained it and manually given "this answer is good, this one is not" sort of training, but I generally don't use it. I do, however, think it is a good tool for things like photo editing or sound editing (getting rid of people in a photo and replacing them with the background, or taking out a kid screaming in an otherwise fine audio recording of like, a wedding or something). I know depending on the LLM, a lot of them get trained on things they shouldn't be or have no right to be trained on (fanfics, blog posts, etc.) and of course I have a giant issue with AI doing any "art" for a myriad of reasons.
I don't deny there are things it's great for! Medical or actual tools and the like are great! Sometimes they really can compute things a human cannot for science and I'm here for it! But otherwise I'm bigmad about AI most of the time. _________________
