I was wondering who here actually enjoyed any type of foreign music and how they felt about listening to music with lyrics you don't immediately understand.
I myself listen to Japanese music most of the time if I am listening to music with lyrics. I don't have a problem listening to music with lyrics I don't immediately understand. And I don't necessarily have the urge to find the lyrics to the song I am listening to 100% of the time.
I view it as opera. The best music you don't need words to understand what emotion they are conveying.
How do you feel about this? |

I understand how you feel Aoiga, I don't need lyrics I understand to make it sound good to me..
songs such as "Rie Fu - Life is like a boat" is a beautiful Japanese song with a lovely melody, just makes me wanna cry _________________ You're just a human being, my dear, sweet child |

For me, I do listen to Opera - not a lot, but a lot of it I don't understand. But when it makes wonderful images in your head, I love listening to it. A lot of Japanese songs I listen to I look for lyrics/translations, because I do want to know the beauty that is the storytelling that the artist put into writing their lyrics.
I like it anyways, because most music I listen to gives me images. _________________

that's the problem with being a crappy artist, you have the most beautiful image in your head and when you draw it just looks like something your 11 year old brother pulled out of his arse _________________ You're just a human being, my dear, sweet child |

I think that is what is called 'a challenged artist'. A bad artist is one who lacks a good image in his/her mind. |

There's no such thing as a bad artist, as long you have a good image in your head and are inspired, you're an artist. How well it comes out depends on your level of proficiency, from beginner to advanced to proficient.
Remember it takes a lot of work and time to improve, so we'll be seeing artists with all levels of proficiency.
To be on topic, I have a certain fondness for Irish celtic music and J-pop. _________________

Practice. I've been at it for a good 9 years, and I'm still learning. _________________

Japanese songs... Y'know, I think I got something against Japanese male singers. I've heard a few of them and... well... |

Male singers you have to get used to. Trust me, I know. I used to loathe them. Then I heard Gackt. O.O _________________

Well, it really depends on what facet of music you like. If your a true music lover, whether you udnerstand the words or not doesn;t matter. The human voice can be viewed as just another instrument, and the instruments themselves can carry a vast amount o ffeeling and emotion. But, it's also good to know what lyrics mean. I personally draw a lot out of lyrics. But, 90% of the foreign music I hear, I don't bother to look up the lyrics. _________________ Overwhelmed with gestalt possibilities... |
