Do these songs totally sound alike, or are my ears just playing tricks on me? Listen well into each song, the openings are very different, but the chorus... not so much.

i'd say it was coincidence. there might be a possibility one got inspired from the other, though. or maybe one the of the song writers did it for both...

And on this topic, mind you this is less impressive since they're closely related series but I've always thought that these two songs sound alike.

I mean they're practically identical, just different tempos.
