Can Men Handle Dating Smarter Women?

Not in my experience -- but i'd like to know other opinions.
If the woman isn't overly egotisitical or just generally annoying, why be intimidated? seems like those who would be, suffer from a lack of confidence.

Sure I can. In fact, my gf is smarter than me (depending on what the issue is, anyway). She has more education, she has a better paying job, and she knows more about certain things - history, for example - and tends to be better than me at articulating her opinions on various issues.
But then, there are some areas where I know more than her.
So in some ways, she's more intelligent, and in some ways, I am. But I hesitate to say that either of us is honestly smarter than the other.

Can they handle it? Sure. Well? Maybe not. It depends on the personality. Some people have a more domineering personality while others need to be sort of submissive, if you will.
Some men like strong women and some don't. It all comes down to the individual. So, yes and no, it all comes down to the person at hand.

Well, why would you feel the need to control, rather then accept your partner is an autonomous being? that is kind of pointless.psychokind wrote:if we're talking about long-term relationships, no. same way men can't handle dumber women. I'd just end up controlling my wife (or even mother of my children) like a robot, makes no sense for me.
If a man is truly confident in himself, he has no reason to be intimidated at all.

For me its an in-between of what Freedan and Psychokind said. Ideally, I would want a girlfriend who I can learn things from, whether she is around my intelligence or higher. I wouldn't feel threatened unless she was arrogant.
I definitely would not want a woman who was less intelligent than me because, like Psychokind, I would take complete advantage of her and not care about her at all.

Ah. I kinda misunderstood what psychokind said, lol.tay120n64 wrote:For me its an in-between of what Freedan and Psychokind said. Ideally, I would want a girlfriend who I can learn things from, whether she is around my intelligence or higher. I wouldn't feel threatened unless she was arrogant.

In some cases though, a guy can take advantage of a woman he perceives to to be lower than him (due to his own arrogance/hubris), but in reality, may not be. In that case, taking advantage of her isn't the right thing to do.
But if she's like this, then yea, I guess.

Yea, many guys do what they know (or think) they can get away with. Sometimes, it doesn't always work in their favor.tay120n64 wrote:It's really a mentality thing. I wouldn't mean to take advantage, but a person does what he knows he can get away with. I wouldn't be happy with someone who I know I could so easily deceive even if I didn't want to.
There's a quote (I forgot from who), that says "Never date a woman who's smart enough to work a computer and/or facebook."
Lol, and it's so true.

I would have a hard time dating somebody who is less intelligent than me. By this I don't mean she has to be book smart, a genius, etc. I just mean she can't be closed-minded. Somebody who refuses to admit that they might be wrong about something, for instance.
But in my family my mother and father are both very smart in terms of what they know, by mother (by my dad's own admission) is much more intelligent than him (she has a greater desire/capacity to learn).
I would ideally like to be with a woman who was intelligent; somebody who wanted to better herself. So I wouldn't have a problem with this.

I agree. I wish guys were all that way. For instance, they can be respectful without being condescending or demeaning. It's true though, being with someone who refuses to admit they are wrong is really frustrating.Jason Tandro wrote:I would have a hard time dating somebody who is less intelligent than me. My boyfriend doesn't have the whole "I r man, I am better than you" arrogance thing I get from so many guys, so he's already won my heart.
