Has anyone here ever lost a pet?

I lost my sweet 13 year old black lab last month due to spinal cancer and i'm having a hard time dealing with it. I miss him a lot.

I got him in 2005 from the Humane Society. He had been my best friend and companion ever since.

Lost my crazy, but all the more beloved, bichon named Fidel in December right before Christmas... Destroyed me for a couple of days. It got easier, since I don't live at home anymore and I only rarely saw him. Still think of him as if he wasn't gone, sucks so much though.

I never owned a pet so i never lost one, but my wife is a vet so the death of pets is a regular in our household. when her old family dog died (it stayed with her parents), she was still pretty sad though although she deals with it everyday.

Yes, quite a few times. The last time was really hard on my dad since it was his dog and sort of his... "replacement" for me since I had moved out (I'm an only child so when I moved out he was upset) and he adopted the dog. More recently was l...ast year? In March I think? When one of my ex-roommates's ferret died. I went in to check on her as they were out of state and she was doing poorly, died the next day. That hurt if only because when they had lived with us before, she was my shadow. The other two ferrets were also pretty upset for a few days after.

It takes a bit to get over when you realize they aren't with you anymore physically, but it gets easier.
